1. FC Union Berlin won a fifth successive home game with a 3-1 triumph over Eintracht Braunschweig on Matchday 27 to all but secure their place in Bundesliga 2 again next season.
Braunschweig had been on a wretched run of form coming into the game and were without a win in their five previous outings. Their confidence was visibly low in a disjointed first half which offered few chances to either side.
That all changed after the break as Union's USA striker Bobby Wood netted his 14th goal of the campaign following excellent work from Eroll Zejnullahu. Their lead was short-lived, however, as a defensive mistake allowed the visitors to equalise through 18-year-old forward Phillip Tietz. Yet Union's home strength shone through in the end, with Damir Kreilach netting a brace to seal a deserved victory and lift the home team above Braunschweig in the standings.
