SC Freiburg continued their push for promotion with a 3-1 win at FSV Frankfurt 1899 which leaves their hosts still in danger near the relegation zone.
It was a sign of Freiburg's brimming confidence that Amir Abrashi tried his luck from 35 yards only to strike the crossbar in a dominant start to the game for the guests. Their pressure paid off in the 29th minute when Florian Niederlechner put them in front from a tight angle, but the post prevented Vincenzo Grifo from adding a second.
Ehsan Haji Safi stunned Freiburg with an equaliser from fully 50 yards, a stunning lob over Alexander Schwolow. It shook Freiburg, but they slowly regained their feet and, thanks to two goals from Nils Petersen, the second from the penalty spot, they took a deserved win away from Frankfurt to maintain a three-point advantage over third-placed 1. FC Nürnberg.
