VfL Bochum moved into fourth place in the Bundesliga 2 table after a deserved 2-0 win at 1. FC Kaiserslautern kept their faint hopes of promotion challenge alive on Monday night.

1. FC Kaiserslautern 0-2 VfL Bochum 1848

Goals: 0-1 Terodde (pen. 48’), 0-2 Terodde (90’)

The first period was one to forget, as neither side managed to create many real openings of note on an admittedly bobbly surface, with visiting striker Peniel Mlapa missing the best opportunity of the half when he shot wide from an angle.

Somewhat predictably, the deadlock was eventually broken from a set-piece when Simon Terodde converted after a foul on Mlapa. Although the hosts subsequently huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser, the game was killed off when Terodde showed remarkable dexterity to collect a rebound and dribble round the goalkeeper before burying his 17th goal of the campaign.
