Fortuna Düsseldorf's third consecutive defeat - this time a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Karlsruher SC - saw them drop into the relegation places.

Fortuna Düsseldorf 0-1 Karlsruher SC

Goals: 0-1 Yamada (75')

The reverse fixture between these sides, which ended 1-1, was goalless until inside the final 20 minutes, and the teams were tactically cancelling each other out for long periods here. Despite starting the day a single point from the relegation zone, Düsseldorf's Kerem Demirbay had the best chance of a keenly contested first half, but his shot was pushed onto the post by Rene Vollath in the Karlsruhe goal.

Dimitrios Diamantakos came close for the visitors in the second half, but his first-time effort was saved by the feet of Michael Rensing. The Greek striker went from near-taker to maker late on, though, cutting the ball back for Hiroki Yamada, who had little trouble tapping home his third goal of the campaign, and it ended 1-0. Fortuna drop into the bottom three, with Karlsruher pulling into a provisional seventh place.
