SpVgg Greuther Fürth returned to winning ways on Matchday 24, easing past 1. FC Union Berlin on home turf.
After defeat at local rivals 1. FC Nürnberg last time out, Fürth began intent on making amends in front of their own fans. Stefan Ruthenbeck's men got off to the perfect start in that respect, club top-scorer Sebastian Freis notching his tenth goal of the season in the opening stages. Union offered little in response, and the hosts could twice have gone further ahead, but midfielder Jurgen Gjasula wasted presentable opportunities.
The second half offered less in the way of goalmouth action, with both sides nullifying each other in midfield. It took until ten minutes from time for the hosts to settle the game, Johannes Wurtz latching onto Gjasula's pass to score his first goal of the season.
