High-flying 1. FC Nürnberg came from behind to beat local rivals SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2-1 on Friday evening and maintain their promotion challenge.
Rene Weiler’s side last lost in Bundesliga 2 way back in October, but they were caught cold after just seven minutes when Fürth’s Robert Zulj stretched to convert Sebastian Heidinger’s cross from close range.
Sebastian Kerk brought FCN level with a classy curling strike just before the break, but the interval checked the home side’s momentum and they struggled for rhythm in the second half, with the visitors snapping at their heels and giving them little time on the ball. However, Niclas Füllkrug provided the touch of quality that Nürnberg needed, nodding in with six minutes remaining to win the derby and exact revenge on the Clover Leaves for their 3-2 victory earlier in the season.
