SC Freiburg took another step towards promotion as they secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Kaiserslautern with a strong home performance.
SC Freiburg 2–0 1. FC Kaiserslautern
Freiburg were the dominant side early on, and took the lead with just eight minutes played. Nicolas Höfler capitalised on a mistake from Mateusz Klich before sticking the ball in the net from inside the area. The goal only cemented the hosts' control of the game, and they had several chances to double their lead before half time. Kaiserslautern began to find their feet in the closing stages of the first half, but were unable to launch any meaningful attack on the Freiburg goal.
Florian Niederlechner eventually scored Freiburg's second just after half time, his long range effort squirming through the legs of Kaiserslautern keeper Marius Müller. From that point on the result was never in doubt, as Freiburg wrapped up their second win in a row to maintain a three-point cushion in second place.
