A routine 2-0 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig on home turf sent RB Leipzig six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga 2 standings.
With SC Freiburg having lost to VfL Bochum 1848 on Friday evening, Leipzig began in full-throttle attacking fashion, intent on taking another major step towards promotion. After Lukas Klostermann came close in the opening stages, Sweden international Emil Forsberg powered home in the 24th minute to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Six minutes later, Marvin Compper was on hand to turn home from close-range after an error from Braunschweig keeper Rafal Gikiewicz. The visitors improved after the restart, but struggled to gain a foothold against a disciplined Leipzig back four. Salim Khelifi tested replacement keeper Peter Gulacsi, but neither he nor Yussuf Poulsen were able to alter the scoreline.
