Markus Kauczinski celebrated his 100th game as Karlsruher SC coach with a 2-1 win at promotion-chasing FC St. Pauli.
After getting warmed up, Pauli relentlessly assaulted the visitors’ goal, eventually taking the lead midway through the first half when Bernd Nehrig turned Sebastian Maier's shot over the line. They should have made it two before the guests levelled with their first chance of the game, converted by Manuel Torres in the 37th minute.
It was a similar story in the second half, with the hosts on top, only for KSC custodian Rene Vollath to continually thwart them. When he was beaten, the post came to his rescue to deny Lennart Thy. At the other end Jonas Meffert struck the woodwork twice before Dimitris Diamantakos showed him how it was done, sealing Karlsruhe's win from close range.
