MSV Duisburg will spend the winter break bottom of the Bundesliga 2 standings, despite holding promotion-chasing VfL Bochum 1848 to a 0-0 draw on Matchday 19.
As is often the case when local rivals face off, the first period was scrappy, with chances hard to come by for either side. Bochum pair Thomas Eisfeld and Janik Haberer spurned the best opportunities of the opening half, while only Zlatko Janjic threatened for the hosts going forward.
Both sides picked up the pace after the break, however, with Haberer and Peniel Mlapa coming close as the visitors pushed for the opener. A different side since the arrival of Ilia Gruev as head coach at the start of November, Duisburg refused to cave in and Janjic even passed up a late chance to snatch three points.
As it was, the sides settled for a share of the points, leaving Bochum sixth over the break and Duisburg still rock bottom.
