Eintracht Braunschweig lost ground in the race for the promotion places in their final match before the winter break after drawing 1-1 at home to 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
The hosts had the better of the first half and deservedly edged in front on the half-hour mark when Jan Hochscheidt scored his second goal of the season from Phil Ofosu-Ayeh’s cross. That prompted a spell of even greater pressure from the Lions, but they failed to make their dominance count before the half-time whistle.
Braunschweig continued to attack purposefully after the break, but were unable to finish off a number of promising moves. The visitors sensed they still had a chance of salvaging a point and grew bolder as the match wore on, eventually equalising when Antonio-Mirko Colak headed in from a corner. The draw leaves Braunschweig four points off the promotion play-off place in fifth, while Lautern are three points further adrift in eighth.
