Bundesliga 2 leaders SC Freiburg extended their unbeaten streak to five consecutive games with a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to FC Union Berlin on Saturday.
The south-western club seized the initiative from the off and controlled the flow of the game against their deep-lying visitors, albeit without truly threatening to score early on. They eventually broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, however, when Mike Frantz finished from close range following a free-kick.
The hosts doubled their lead from another set-piece, only this time Marc-Oliver Kempf headed in Vincenzo Grifo's expert delivery. Freiburg killed the game off midway through the second half with a well-deserved third, Immanuel Höhn prodding in at the back post from Grifo's corner to ensure Christian Streich's men stay top for another week at least.
