1. FC Nürnberg took their place in the top three of Bundesliga 2, at least for a night, by beating SC Paderborn 2-1 at the Grundig Stadion.
Nürnberg could clearly sense the chance to throw their hat in the promotion ring with victory, as they got at Paderborn venomously early on. Chances were wasted left, right and centre, however, before Niclas Füllkrug gave the hosts a deserved lead with an unstoppable direct free-kick.
The home team continued to pen Stefan Effenberg's team back after the restart, and the former Germany international responded by bringing on a second forward in the shape of Srdjan Lakic. The change failed to have the desired effect, though, as Nürnberg doubled their lead with Tim Leibold beating Paderborn custodian Lukas Kruse with a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area. Kevin Stöger pulled a goal back for the visitors with a minute of normal time remaining, but the hosts held on to the points.
