MSV Duisburg pulled off a major upset on Matchday 16 by posting a 3-0 victory over high-flying SV Sandhausen.
The hosts were five points adrift at the bottom of the table going into the game, but started strongly in an attacking 4-2-3-1 formation. However, Sandhausen had the better of the chances in the first half, although wayward finishing meant the teams went into the break at 0-0.
Duisburg defender Rolf Feltscher deservedly put the home side ahead just after the hour mark with a well-taken finish, before Tim Albutat doubled their advantage minutes later with a spectacular strike at the back post. Sandhausen were stunned and unable to muster a response, allowing the Zebras to add gloss to the scoreline when Zlatko Janjic hit a third in stoppage time to hand Duisburg only their second win of the season.
