Eintracht Braunschweig bounced back from Monday's defeat in Düsseldorf with a hard-fought victory over SV Sandhausen on Matchday 18.
The defences dominated the first half, with both teams remaining compact and quashing any attacking movement. Emil Berggreen had a golden opportunity to put Braunschweig ahead with ten minutes played, but fluffed his lines. At the other end, Aziz Bouhaddouz forced a flying save from Braunschweig keeper Rafal Gikiewicz on the half hour mark.
Braunschweig opened the scoring immediately after the break, Berggreen getting on the end of Ken Reichel's low cross to poke the ball home from close range. Then, 15 minutes later, Sandhausen came agonisingly close to equalising as Gikiewicz pulled off another fine save to deny Bouhaddouz again. More chances followed, but in the 78th minute, Salim Khelifi broke free of the defence to round the goalkeeper and double Braunschweig's lead.
