1. FC Union Berlin and DSC Arminia Bielefeld played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday afternoon.
In challenging, snowy conditions, it was Union who made the better start, their positive attacking play keeping Bielefeld pinned back in their own half. USA international striker Bobby Wood twice hit the woodwork in the opening 15 minutes, but it took until Benjamin Kessel's 32nd-minute header after a goalmouth scramble to put the hosts in front.
The introductions of Bjorn Jöpek and Dennis Mast after the interval gave Bielefeld more attacking thrust and the visitors duly began to see more of the ball. Within six minutes of the restart, Norbert Meier's men were level courtesy of a Michael Parensen own-goal, and although Union came closest to a winner late on, the draw leaves both sides locked on 17 points at the wrong end of the table.
