St. Pauli striker Lennart Thy scored all four goals in a 4-0 victory at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf on Monday evening to lift the side to second in the standings.
Goals: Thy (12', 22', 69', 85')
Aware that other teams near the top of the table had dropped points over the weekend, St. Pauli began furiously, determined to take advantage. It was not long before they edged ahead, with Thy ruthlessly punishing a defensive mistake to give the hosts the lead. He grabbed his second shortly afterwards, tapping in the rebound from close range after Philipp Ziereis' header hit the post.
The visitors were visibly shaken after going behind, and having struggled all season their confidence was low, making hopes of a fightback slim. St. Pauli were in no mood to be merciful, however, and Thy scored two more after the break to hand coach Ewald Lienen's men a much-deserved victory to go level on points with league leaders SC Freiburg.
