Karlsruhe - 1. FC Kaiserslautern slumped to a second consecutive defeat after being beaten 2-0 by table neighbours Karlsruher SC.
A feisty first half saw the referee in high demand as the tackles repeatedly flew in. Despite a number of set pieces, though, neither side was able to create significant opportunities.
It was Karlsruhe who began to dominate towards the end of the first half. Moments before the break, they won a penalty when Sascha Mockenhaupt pulled down Erwin Hoffer inside the box. Dmitrij Nazarov converted the resulting spot-kick to give the host the lead.
KSC flew out of the traps in the second half and doubled their lead in the 47th minute, Grischa Prömel's shot from distance finding its way into the left corner. Kaiserslautern offered little in the way of a resurgence, allowing Karlsruhe to take all three points and move away from the lower end of the table.
