Berlin - Stefan Effenberg made it two wins from two as SC Paderborn 07 head coach after his side ran out 2-0 winners at 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday afternoon.
Buoyed by victory over Eintracht Braunschweig last time out, Paderborn flew out of the traps, taking the lead after 124 seconds of action when Süleyman Koc provided a cool finish to Mahir Saglik's through-ball. A mere three minutes later and the visitors were two goals to the good, Saglik heading home Koc's cross.
Stunned by SCP's early double, Union offered little for the remainder of the first half, but improved at the start of the second period. Bobby Wood was guilty of spurning a pair of chances after the restart, although Effenberg's side were content to threaten on the counter-attack, coming closest to the next goal through Moritz Stoppelkamp. As it was, the visitors closed the game out with the minimum of fuss, ensuring the charismatic Effenberg has made the best start of any coach in the club's history.
