Two early strikes from Peniel Mlapa saw VfL Bochum romp to victory and throw SC Paderborn deeper into the mire on Friday evening.
Bochum exploded into the game, opening the scoring in the eight minute. Timo Perthel's cross from the left wing found Peniel Mlapa, who swept the ball home. Mlapa doubled the lead just two minutes later, getting on the end of a fine through ball from Marco Terrazzino. With Bochum now completely dominant, Tim Hoogland made it 3-0 on the half hour mark, lashing the ball in from just inside the area.
Paderborn showed no signs of recovery immediately after the break, but sparked back into life with 20 minutes to play when Nick Proschwitz's shot forced a fine save from Manuel Riemann. The visitors' misery was compounded, though, when Süleyman Koc was sent off for bringing down Thomas Eisfeld in the area. Simon Terrodde missed the resulting penalty, but Bochum struck again in the final minute, through an Arvydas Novikovas header to move back up the standings.
