Freiburg - Nils Petersen scored the earliest hat-trick in Bundesliga 2 history as SC Freiburg beat 1. FC Nürnberg 6-3 in an astonishing encounter at the Schwarzwald-Stadion.
Petersen converted two penalties in the space of three minutes to give the Black Forest club an early two-goal lead, before the former FC Bayern München striker netted a third from close range to complete his treble with just 13 minutes on the clock. Nürnberg looked dead and buried when former Club midfielder Mike Frantz made it 4-0 before the interval, but a stunning strike by Kevin Möhwald on the stroke of half-time gave the visitors hope.
Hanno Behrens converted Danny Blum’s corner to further reduce the deficit 60 seconds into the second half, and when Alessandro Schöpf made it 4-3 from the penalty spot just seven minutes later it looked as though Nürnberg might just snatch the most unlikely of draws. It wasn’t to be for Rene Weiler’s men, however, as Maximilian Philipp and substitute Julian Schuster put the icing on an impressive victory for Christian Streich’s charges, before Nürnberg’s Dave Bulthuis was dismissed late on to compound the visitors’ misery.
