Nuremberg - Relegated outfit VfR Aalen were unable to bow out of Bundesliga 2 on a high note after losing 2-1 away to 1. FC Nürnberg on Matchday 34.

With very little at stake for either side, the match was not much of a spectacle in the first period, and goalmouth action was rare, with the majority of the play concentrated in a congested midfield. It was therefore no surprise that the best of the chances came via set-pieces, and the hosts took the lead from a corner when unmarked defender Dave Bulthuis headed home from close range.

The visitors were much improved after the restart and soon leveled matters. Dennis Chessa hit the post following a neat team move, and Jürgen Gjasula was on hand to fire in the rebound. However, Maximilian Welzmüller's sending off in the closing stages paved the way for Nürnberg to stage a late charge for victory, and Guido Burgstaller secured the points for the hosts with a neat finish in the 87th minute.
