Kaiserslautern - 1. FC Kaiserslautern missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga after being held to a 1-1 draw by champions FC Ingolstadt 04 on the final day of the 2014/15 campaign.

Fourth at the start of play and needing a win to stand any chance of usurping SV Darmstadt 98 and Karlsruher SC in the remaining promotion places, Kaiserslautern got their noses in front in the 41st minute when Erik Thommy arrived unmarked at the far post to stick away Chris Löwe’s left-wing cross.

The second period was nowhere near as cagey as the first, but suddenly it was Ingolstadt asking all the questions. Tobias Levels and Moritz Hartmann had already gone close, before Max Christiansen’s deflected strike got the better of Tobias Sippel with nine minutes left to play. With Darmstadt and Karlsruher both winning, Kaiserslautern went in desperate search of a second goal and they came mightily close in added time, only for captain Markus Kerl to fire straight at Andre Weis.
