Aalen - VfR Aalen were relegated to Germany's third division after losing 4-2 at home to 1. FC Heidenheim.

The hosts went into the Matchday 33 clash bottom of Bundesliga 2, but Stefan Ruthenbeck’s side made the perfect start when Markus Steinhöfer’s free-kick was headed home by Oliver Barth after just twelve minutes. However, goals from Marc Schnatterer and Florian Niederlechner ensured the visitors went into the break 2-1 ahead.

Orhan Ademi bundled the ball home three minutes after half-time to put Aalen back on level terms, and hosts nearly took the lead for a second time when Sascha Mockenhaupt headed against the post. Aalen continued to push forward as the second half wore on, but Robert Leipertz restored Heidenheim’s lead from the penalty spot before Niederlechner’s second of the game sealed the points for the visitors. Aalen are now guaranteed to finish bottom of the pile, while Frank Schmidt's side remain in seventh.
