Bochum - FC Ingolstadt 04 will have to wait just a little longer before being able to celebrate promotion to the Bundesliga after letting their first chance slip with a 3-1 defeat at VfL Bochum.

Ingolstadt, needing a draw to make certain of their place in the top flight of German football, appeared to be on course for victory when Lukas Hinterseer broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, punishing the hosts for failing to clear their lines amid confusion in the Bochum rearguard. Bochum levelled on the stroke of half-time, though, with Michael Gregoritsch converting from the penalty spot after Piotr Cwielong was fouled by Benjamin Hübner.

Bochum then took command of proceedings, going close to taking the lead on several occasions before Mikael Forssell met Stefano Celozzi's cross at the far post to put the hosts in front. Yusuke Tasaka headed in a third for the hosts as Ingolstadt capitulated, putting a potential promotion party back to Matchday 33 when they host RB Leipzig.
