Kaiserslautern - FC St. Pauli boosted their survival hopes by beating 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2-0 after weathering a storm in front of 45,035 fans at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion.

The first half was a monologue which, in view of the final result, was not what one might have expected. In fact, it was Kaiserslautern who could have and perhaps should have put the game to bed with an array of chances all wasted. Kerem Demirbay came the closest with his shot striking the top of the crossbar.

Whatever tone and words Pauli coach Ewald Lienen used in his half-time team talk, he got it right. Within three minutes, they took the lead with Jan Philipp Kalla tucking away a rare opportunity. A penalty from Marcel Halstenberg barely eight minutes later saw the game put to bed as Pauli emerged triumphant in a truly dramatic game of two halves.
