Munich - TSV 1860 Munich sank ever deeper into the relegation mire on Sunday afternoon after suffering a ninth home defeat of the season, going down 3-0 to Union Berlin.

While the Lions could not be faulted for effort in the first half, the lack of confidence running throughout the side was all too apparent as they lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Union, meanwhile, have long been safe in the comfort of mid-table and were happy to absorb the pressure before hitting the hosts on the break.

Union were the better organised of the sides and when they took the lead through Sebastian Polter it was not entirely undeserved. 1860 piled on the pressure in the second half but did not possess the quality to unlock Berlin's backline. With gaps appearing in the hosts' defence as the match entered the closing stages, Union took advantage by scoring two more, with Damir Kreilach and a second from Polter condemning 1860 to a nervy season finale.
