Aalen - VfR Aalen gave their hopes of beating the drop a massive boost with a 2-1 win over promotion-chasing Eintracht Braunschweig.

Braunschweig goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz was forced into a decent save from Markus Steinhöfer, before the Lions began to settle into their stride midway through the first half. Benjamin Kessel combined well with Havard Nielsen, but Ken Reichel failed to trouble Aalen custodian Daniel Bernhardt. Marcel Correia then found Jan Hochscheidt, who fired into the side netting on the stroke of half time.

Braunschweig got the breakthrough early in the second period when Mirko Boland rifled home from 20 yards out, but the lead didn't last. There was a slice of luck involved in both Aalen's goals as Gikiewicz’s clearance cannoned into the net off Collin Quaner following a poor back pass from Reichel, before Phil Ofosu-Ayeh collected Saulo Decarli’s half clearance and slammed into the net from close range to complete the turnaround with 21 minutes still to play.
