Düsseldorf - A goal in each half from Charlison Benschop gave Fortuna Düsseldorf a deserved 2-0 win over second-placed SV Darmstadt 98.

Chances weren't exactly in short supply, with Darmstadt goalkeeper Christian Mathenia and his Fortuna counterpart Michael Rensing called on to deny Benschop and Marcel Heller respectively. Benschop opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Leon Balogun was adjudged to have brought down Axel Bellinghausen in the box on the stroke of half time, but not before Dominik Stroh-Engel had missed an open goal at the other end.

Darmstadt went in search of the equaliser as Heller headed straight at Rensing, before Benschop grabbed his second of the afternoon following a slick passing move involving Joel Pohjanpalo and Bellinghausen. Darmstadt ran out of steam, but Düsseldorf substitutes Tugrul Erat and Erwin Hoffer failed to take advantage, spurning two great opportunities to add gloss to the scoreline late on.
