Aalen - In a veritable relegation six-pointer between VfR Aalen and Erzgebirge Aue, the hosts emerged as victors with a 3-0 win to move off the foot of the table and consign their guests to 18th place.

Stefan Ruthenbeck's Aalen side began much the brighter of the two and spurned a number of good chances to take the lead before Andreas Hofmann deservedly broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, heading in unmarked from a corner. There was precious little to see by way of attacks from Aue, whose moves invariably broke down due to wayward passing in the final third.

The outcome of the match never appeared to be in any doubt, but Collin Quaner made sure of the points with an outstanding volley at the back post to make it 2-0. Gianluca Korte raced through after a late counterattack and was denied by Aue keeper Sascha Kirschstein, but the latter was powerless to prevent Markus Steinhöfer stroking in the rebound. As such, Aalen are now in 16th place, two points ahead of their beleaguered visitors.
