Aalen - VfR Aalen fell to the foot of the Bundesliga 2 table after failing to beat ten-man Greuther Fürth on Saturday, drawing 1-1 at the Scholz-Arena.

Just days after falling to a 2-0 defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the DFB Cup, Aalen found themselves back in the bread-and-butter business of Bundesliga 2 and they were caught cold when Niko Gießelmann gave Fürth a flying start with a pinpoint direct free-kick which grazed the underside of the crossbar on its way in.

The Bavarians continued to dominate proceedings until the hosts somehow levelled, with visiting goalkeeper Wolfgang Hesl shouldering the blame as his poor punched clearance from a Arne Feik free-kick fell for Collin Quaner to tuck in. The guests were reduced to ten men when Stephan Schröck picked up his second yellow card, but Aalen could not take advantage and, with St. Pauli winning in Braunschweig, the draw meant they crashed to the foot of the standings.
