Marc Schnatterer's eighth goal of the season gave the visitors the lead after just five minutes at the Stadion an der alten Försterei, but Damir Kreilach brought Union level just 155 seconds later. Norbert Düwel's side completed the turnaround on 28 minutes when Sören Brandy slid a composed finish beyond Heidenheim keeper Rouven Sattelmaier, before Christopher Quiring prodded in from close range to condemn the visitors to a fourth defeat in five matches.
