Munich - New 1860 Munich coach Torsten Fröhling had the perfect start to his tenure as Lions' boss by recording a much-needed 2-1 win at home to bottom club FC St. Pauli.

1860 were set on the road to their first victory since Matchday 14 when visiting defender Sören Gonther turned the ball into his own net in the tenth minute. The match was not much of a spectacle for the neutrals, however: full-blooded tackles in a congested midfield were the name of the game, with goalmouth action a rarity in the opening period.

The hosts doubled their lead after the interval when substitute Marius Wolf scored with a well-placed looping header. St. Pauli struck back almost straight away with a close-range effort from Christopher Nöthe, and although they had a couple of presentable chances to snatch a draw late on, wayward finishing ensured the Hamburg-based club remain rooted to the foot of the standings, while 1860 move out of the relegation zone.
