Aue - Jerome Gondorf scored the only goal of the game as high-flying SV Darmstadt 98 kept pace at the Bundesliga 2 summit with a tense 1-0 win over FC Erzgebirge Aue.

The tone of proceedings was set early on with neither side willing to give an inch to their opponents in a hard-fought opening, but while Darmstadt were on the ball more often than the hosts, it was Aue who carved out the best chances of the first half either side of Marcel Heller having a goal ruled out for offside. However, Christian Mathenia was on hand to deny both Selcuk Alibaz's well-struck volley and Stipe Vucur's close-range header to keep his side in the game.

There remained no love lost between the two sides after the restart with Bobby Wood forced off injured six minutes into the second half. Darmstadt keeper Mathenia and counterpart Martin Männel were both forced to produce a couple of top saves to retain parity in the encounter, but it was the latter who had to pick the ball out of the net after Gondorf fired home from Ronny König's knock down. A second bookable offence from Nils Miatke saw Aue reduced to ten men late on, but it brought about no change to the scoreline.
