Munich - Bundesliga 2 side TSV 1860 Munich have confirmed the departure of head coach Markus von Ahlen with immediate effect.

"We greatly regret that Markus' work didn't achieve the success we hoped and urgently needed," explained sporting director Gerhard Poschner. "We thank Markus very much for his efforts."

Fröhling takes interim charge

The Allianz Arena-based club lie 16th in the Bundesliga 2 standings, occupying the relegation play-off berth. Von Ahlen took over after Ricardo Moniz's departure in September, but has recently presided over a seven-match winless run, culminating in Matchday 21's 1-1 draw with SV Darmstadt 98.

Under-21 coach and former FC St. Pauli player Torsten Fröhling will take charge of first-team affairs until further notice.
