Darmstadt - An end-to-end promotion clash between SV Darmstadt 98 and FC Ingolstadt 04 ended 2-2 at the Stadion am Böllenfalltor.

Promoted Darmstadt, near the front of the pack of clubs hunting down Ingolstadt's lead at the top, began in perfect style when Hanno Behrens swept home from close range in the seventh minute as the league leaders failed to clear a corner. Ralph Hasenhüttl's troops, however, bore their teeth to show why they won the Herbstmeisterschaft, restoring parity in the 20th minute with Pascal Groß's perfect free kick. The topsy-turvy affair swung full circle before half time, when Ingolstadt's Australian star Mathew Leckie teed up Stefan Lex, who made no mistake in making it 2-1.

With only one loss at the Böllenfalltor all season, Darmstadt were in no mood to lose ground at the top without a fight, and within ten minutes of the second period restarting, Dirk Schuster's side were level as Marcel Heller converted unerringly. Marco Sailer then struck the woodwork as the clock ticked towards a conclusion, but two of the Bundesliga 2's promotion hopefuls were forced to end the calendar year with a point.
