Hamburg - FC St. Pauli picked up their first win since 4 October by beating VfR Aalen 3-1 at the Millerntor Stadion in new coach Ewald Lienen's first game in charge.

Pauli came into the game off the back of a run of nine games without a win, but there was no sign of a lack of confidence as they attacked their guests with gusto. John Verhoek gave them the lead ten minutes before the interval after Oliver Barth failed to clear his lines, and Barth was again the villain for Aalen early in the second half when he turned Dennis Daube's corner into his own net.

Lennart Thy gave the hosts some added breathing space by adding a third with ten minutes to go, and although Fabio Kaufmann pulled one back, Pauli were able to seek out the result and earn a first league win in over two months that, for the time being at least, takes them off the bottom of the table.
