Heidenheim - Eintracht Braunschweig kept up their promotion chase by virtue of a hard-fought 1-0 win over 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 at the Voith Arena.

The home side, whose flying start to the season had been slowed by a four-game winless run, began confidently. Captain and top scorer Marc Schnatterer was heavily involved in the build-up play as Frank Schmidt's side came increasingly closer to Rafał Gikiewicz's goal, with Florian Niederlechner striking the woodwork with a powerful header five minutes before the break.

Heidenheim would come to regret the miss, as an improved start to the second half from last season's Bundesliga participants brought the opener in the 61st minute, as a goalkeeping error from the inexperienced Felix Körber allowed Seung-Woo Ryu in for his fourth goal of the campaign. Schnatterer and Philip Heise tested Gikiewicz late on but the beleaguered hosts could find no way back.
