Sandhausen - SV Darmstadt 98 climbed into second place in the Bundesliga 2 on Matchday 18 as they ground out a hard-fought 2-1 win over SV Sandhausen on Wednesday night.

The hosts made a fast and furious start to proceedings, but failed to reward themselves and found themselves behind with 15 minutes played as a lightning quick counter attack saw Manuel Stiefler inadvertently turn the ball into his own net after getting in the way of goalkeeper Manuel Riemann's attempted clearance.

The Sandhausen No1 did well to tip Leon Balogun's header onto the post before the break, an important save considering Aziz Bouhaddouz rose highest to restore parity shortly after the hour mark. However, a delightful 86th-minute effort from Darmstadt's Hanno Behrens, which found the top corner, ensured the visitors walked away with all three points.
