Berlin - 1. FC Union Berlin brought an end to Karlsruher SC's eight-game unbeaten streak thanks to a 2-0 win in the capital.

It was an evening Karlsruher defender Jan Mauersberger will be keen to forget after his slip let in Sebastian Polter to set up Christopher Quiring, who give Union a flying start with little over a minute gone. Steven Skrzybski could have made it two soon after, but he hit the woodwork from a tight angle.

Mauersberger's evening ended early in the second half when an injury forced him off after a clash with Polter. Having lost his main marker, Polter had more freedom and he made the most of it to double Union's lead with a header to ensure the points remained in Berlin.
