Hamburg - Bundesliga 2 strugglers FC St. Pauli have installed Ewald Lienen as their new head coach, replacing Thomas Meggle, who will be taking over as sporting director from Rachid Azzouzi.

The Hamburg club rang the changes on Tuesday, two days after a 1-0 defeat at home to promoted SV Darmstadt 98 that left them bottom of the table following an eight-game winless streak.

Up for the challenge

“Ewald Lienen was very convincing in our negotiations,” club president Oke Göttlich. “He’s well-prepared for this task and has the necessary experience to help our side avoid relegation.”

The Kiezkicker travel to Bundesliga 2 leaders FC Ingolstadt in Lienen’s first game in charge on Wednesday.
