Heidenheim - VfR Aalen overcame a missed penalty and still managed to secure a 1-0 win away to ten-man local rivals 1. FC Heidenheim on Matchday 16.

The home side had come into the game off the back of a convincing win against SV Sandhausen but they were given a major let-off when Nejmeddin Daghfous blazed horribly over from the penalty spot after a handball in the box from Heidenheim’s Mathias Wittek.

Aalen’s job then became a whole lot easier when Kevin Kraus saw a straight red for a dangerous tackle before half-time, with Dominick Drexler eventually putting them into the lead from close range just after the interval. Each side had chances to add to the scoring but Aalen’s resolve against their neighbours told as they held on to build encouragingly on last week’s victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf.
