Aalen - VfR Aalen ended a run of four defeats by beating promotion-chasing Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-0 at the SCHOLZ Arena.

Knowing three points would lift them off the foot of the Bundesliga 2 table, Stefan Ruthenbeck's Aalen were dominant from the first whistle, harrying and pressuring their visitors. Within 15 minutes, the hosts had the goal their start deserved when Collin Quaner added the finishing touch to Phil Ofusu-Ayeh's cross. Aalen then controlled the remainder of the half without creating many clear-cut opportunities.

Düsseldorf got the second period underway in flying fashion with chances for Charlison Benschop and Joel Pohjanpalo. However, when Nejmeddin Daghfous converted a penalty on the hour-mark, it was always an uphill task for Düsseldorf to hit back, and despite late pressure, Aalen closed out the game to seal the three points. Ruthenbeck's side jump to 16th in the table, while Düsseldorf drop to third.
