Nuremberg - 1. FC Nürnberg denied 1. FC Kaiserslautern the chance to go top of Bundesliga 2 with a thrilling victory at the Grundig Stadion, seeing off the visitors 3-2.

Nürnberg started brightly in front of the boisterous Bavarian crowd, forcing several good saves from Tobias Sippel early on, but his resistance only lasted until the 25th minute, as a quick break from the hosts saw Alessandro Schöpf turn his man and cross for an unmarked Daniel Candeias to finish from close range. And it was another break which led to the second, with Schöpf this time running half the pitch before beating Sippel one-on-one.

After the break Schöpf looked to have put the match beyond Kaiserslautern's reach, once again breaking through on the break and firing a fine shot in from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-0. When Alexander Ring got one back for the visitors just after the hour mark a comeback seemed unlikely, but when Chris Löwe converted a Jean Zimmer cross with 19 minutes left you could sense the home nerves growing. Nevertheless, Nürnberg survived the late pressure to take all three points for only the third time this season.
