Berlin - 1. FC Nürnberg took a considerable leap up the Bundesliga 2 standings with an emphatic 4-0 triumph against nine-man 1. FC Union Berlin on Friday night.

The Bavarians and Daniel Candeias in particular made an ideal start, taking the lead after only seven minutes. The Portuguese forward, making his debut after his arrival from SL Benfica, drilled in a low shot from nearly 25 yards, catching Daniel Haas out cold. Candeias then showed he has an eye for a pass as well, teeing up Timo Gebhart to make it two from close range with half an hour played.

Union responded well, but during their best spell of the game, they were reduced to ten men with Martin Dausch given his marching orders on the stroke of half-time. Peniel Mlapa followed Candeias' example after the restart, scoring with his first touch after coming on to make it three midway through the second half, before Robert Kock compounded Berlin's misery with a fourth following Christopher Trimmel's dismissal.
