Karlsruher - Promotion hopefuls Karslruher SC were forced to settle for a point on home soil against a stubborn 1. FC Union Berlin outfit in their opening game of the 2013/14 Bundesliga 2 campaign.

The hosts were the far more active side early on in proceedings with their capital city visitors intent on maintaining a watertight backline at the expense of their attacking exploits. KSC should have taken the lead shortly before half time, but in being unselfish, Illian Micanski failed to make the most of a promising scoring opportunity as the sides went in level at the break.

There was little change to the storyline after the restart with Berlin offering little to no threat in the final third, allowing their hosts to hold them to hopeful efforts from long-range that rarely caused Dirk Orlishausen any problems. Karlsruher were having a lot of joy down the left with summer signing Hiroki Yamada providing a constant source of menace. However, when Selcuk Alibaz clipped the outside of the post with seconds remaining it became clear that neither side was going to be able to produce a winner, forcing both to settle for a goalless draw.
