Düsseldorf - Oliver Reck has been named as new head coach of Bundesliga 2 side Fortuna Düsseldorf.

The 49-year-old, who has signed a two-year deal valid until 30 June 2016, takes over from Lorenz-Günther Köstner.

'I enjoy working with the team'

Köstner had only taken over first-team duties during the 2013/14 winter break, but was laid low by illness during much of the second half of the season, with Reck handed the reins on a temporary basis. He helped turn the club’s fortunes around, guiding them up from 14th to finish sixth in the standings.

“I’m delighted to be able to continue my work of the last few weeks and months,” Reck said. “I’ve always said how much I enjoy working with the team and I’d like to continue along the path we’ve started. Düsseldorf is a great city and Fortuna are a wonderful club with incredible fans. Now it’s up to us to do something with all of that.”
