“I’ve decided to join Köln,” the 24-year-old said in a statement. “For me the Bundesliga is the best league in the world and I always aim to get better. I’ve grown to love 1860. They welcomed me with open arms and treated me with great respect. I will never forget that.”
Osako, who scored six goals and provided three assists for 1860 in 2013/14, is currently in Florida with the Japanese national team preparing for the impending FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where the Samurai Blue will face Colombia, Greece and Ivory Coast in Group C. “After making my decision I now feel relieved and can focus my full attention on the World Cup,” Osako added.
“We’d like to thank Yuya for the short but good time together at the Lions,” said 1860 sporting director Gerhard Poschner. “We wish him all the best at the World Cup and in his future career.”
