The former Germany Under-16 coach replaces Olaf Janßen, who was relieved of his duties following Dresden's relegation from Bundesliga 2 on the final day of the season.

"We will work hard to assemble a team that can cope with the competitive nature of the third division," said the 47-year-old on his official unveiling. "Expectations are very high at the club following our relegation, but it's important to set realistic targets."
Dresden finished 17th in Bundesliga 2 after losing at home to DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Matchday 34.
