Bielefeld - SV Darmstadt 98 overturned a 3-1 first leg promotion/relegation play-off deficit to beat DSC Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 and book their place in next season's Bundesliga 2 on away goals.

Darmstadt got off to the perfect start, with Dominik Stroh-Engel rifling home after 23 minutes. The plucky third tier outfit continued to ask questions of Arminia's shaky back four, who shut off once again early in the second half as Hanno Behrens made it two with a cute near-post flick. The men in orange were nevertheless going out on away goals as things stood, and it looked like their time was up when Felix Burmeister rose unmarked to cement the hosts' slender aggregate advantage.

True to the pattern of the game, however, Jerome Gondorf smashed in an unstoppable 79th-minute effort to force extra time, before die Blauen forward Kacper Przybylko popped up with what looked like being the decisive strike of the night. Darmstadt, though, refused to lay down and got their just reward when Elton da Costa struck at the death to send his side into the second tier and Bielefeld down.
